A young man supported by SHARE Scotland recently achieved the feat of cycling 10k for charity.
After training hard in the gym, determined Ally Williamson completed the challenge in 35 minutes, smashing his personal best by 10 minutes. The 26 year old - who has physical and learning disabilities - cycled the distance on a motormed. He has been training at the Vale of Leven gym with support from fitness instructor John McArthur. The motormed is similar to an exercise bike, and can be used by people with disabilities and physical restrictions.
Ally wasn't too keen on the motormed at first, but persisted with the help of John and SHARE staff and quickly started to look forward to his sessions in the gym. Project manager Elidh Hoyland helped to motivate Ally to push himself further and take on the charity challenge. At the beginning of September Ally was able to cycle the 10k in 45 minutes and Elidh supported Ally to start fundraising.
Elidh suggested three charities, but as soon as she mentioned Tickled Pink Ally was sold - pink is his favourite colour.
Joined by family members and his support team, Ally completed the cycle in 35 minutes and raised a fantastic £250. Well done Ally!
