Some of the people that SHARE Scotland supports need someone with them 24 hours a day.
This might be because of their complex learning disability, communication difficulties, health needs or challenging behaviours. These people have dedicated staff teams who work in shifts, either with a night shift worker or someone sleeping in the house overnight.
People with disabilities are supported to hold their own tenancy and many other everyday things such as budgeting, shopping, cooking, cleaning, paying bills, and not forgetting just relaxing. As well as this they are supported to do the things in the community that they want to, and that most of us take for granted. This could be visiting family and friends, attending a doctor's appointment, going to pubs and clubs or watching a football match or film at the cinema.
For some it may mean going to college or having a job. The support offered by staff may be physical, perhaps if someone uses a wheelchair, or help with communication, if someone is unable to communicate easily or clearly. It might simply mean that someone has a team member with him or her when they are doing something they like, to ensure their safety and to enjoy the experience with them.
