Now a widely respected organization, SHARE has been providing highly individualized support for people since 1991, when the first house for five young adults opened in Edinburgh. Since then further services have been developed across Lothian, Glasgow and West Dunbartonshire. Each person SHARE works alongside has his or her unique personality, interests, aspirations, background and needs. Some people may require help preparing a meal, bathing or getting dressed, whilst others may have additional sensory impairment or medical needs. Simple things like shopping or socializing can also be difficult for some people to do, without help from others. A team member will always be on hand to not only ensure a person's well-being when out or at home, but to allow them to do the things that are important to them. Whilst SHARE's initial services provided support to a small group of individuals sharing a home, support is also provide to many people who have chosen to live alone, or perhaps with one or two others. Living alone does not, however, mean a solitary existence. A team member is still on hand 24 hours a day for those people who prefer their own space to help them enjoy mixing with family and friends when it suits them, and to lead a full home and social life for their choosing. For those who live with others, the need for personal space is equally important. Each person has his or her own private bedroom, and the staffing level SHARE provides allows them to follow individual pursuits and lead an independent lifestyle. |
