What does the job involve? |

The role of each team member is wide-ranging and varied; it will depend a great deal on the needs and wishes of those being supported. Because SHARE provides 24-hour support, employees work in shifts. In some services team members will be required to take it in turn to sleep over in the house during the night. An additional payment is made to team members each time they sleep in the house. In other services, designated night-shift staff may be employed.
What is important to remember is that the role of team members extends well beyond the walls of the house. People are supported to hold their own tenancy and many other everyday things such as budgeting, shopping, cooking, cleaning, paying bills and not forgetting just relaxing. As well as this, they are also supported to do the things in the community that they want to, and that most of us take for granted. This could be visiting family and friends, attending a doctor's appointment, going to pubs and clubs or watching a football match or film at the local cinema. For some it may mean going to college or having a job. The support offered by staff may be physical, perhaps if someone uses a wheelchair, or help with communication, if someone is unable to communicate easily or clearly. It might simply mean that someone has a team member with him or her when they are doing something they like, to ensure their safety and to enjoy the experience with them.
